Thibaut Branquart (Team 66 Nord and Team Inlandsis) answers our questions

Can you introduce yourself quickly?

I'm 40 years old, I live in Lambersart, near Lille.

Can you also introduce your dogs?

My dogs are long distance Alaskan huskies, their lineages are Jeff King, Harald Tunheim, Emil Inauen, Hans Gatt, Lance Mackey. They are between 18 months and 12 years old.

What are your strengths?

I am determined. When I have a project, I make sure I bring it to an end.

What are your plans for 2018-2019?

The Finnmarkslopet 500.

What are your best and worst memories as a musher?

The best is to have managed to survive three storms in the Femundlopet 500. The worst is when I was caught in the storm that hit the Mush Synnfjell 2018. It was incredible, I really felt like I was reaching my limit. But experiencing it made me and the dogs stronger.

What is your favourite place for mushing?

The Synnfjell, West of Lillehammer.

Who is your favourite musher and why?

I have a lot of respect for Jeff King.

Who or what inspires you?

My dogs. More than competition and ranking, I want to experience adventures with them while keeping the total respect that I have for them at the top of my mind.

What do you like to do besides sleddog sports?

Explore the wilderness with my sons.

In which direction do you think sleddog sports are headed?

Good question... I have always been both a competitor and race organiser. Our sport has a future if we understand how to keep dogs at the centre of our projects. These dogs are exceptional, they have unique abilities, they are competitors that are made for this. It's up to us to make sure they are in the best condition to perform.
